Turkey

To escape everyday life in Berlin, S. (fem., half-turkish) went to Istanbul and stayed there for 1 year to study. Her appartment was near Taksim Square; most of the pictures she brought home are from Tarlabasi, though. It’s where drugs are dealt and Syrian refugees are home —  according to S. the most interesting and colourful place in town. “I havn’t studied much. Instead, I inhaled the indescribable atmosphere and the wondrous light”

About the Project

wo-anders (german for “somewhere else”) is a self-documenting photo project. We hand disposable cameras to people all around the world and they document their life for two weeks.

When the camera is given back to us, we develop and scan the film and publish the photos to this very website. Here, the viewer (you!) can browse through a life of a stranger and explore foreign cultures.
